AT&T is acquiring 50 MHz of nationwide spectrum from EchoStar for $23 billion in cash. The deal includes 30 MHz of 3.45 GHz mid-band spectrum and 20 MHz of 600 MHz low-band spectrum, covering more than 400 U.S. markets. AT&T said the purchase will strengthen its 5G coverage and capacity nationwide. EchoStar, meanwhile, will transition into a hybrid mobile network operator, shutting down parts of its Boost Mobile RAN and using AT&T’s network to serve its customers.
