FCC Advances Second C-Band Auction

The FCC plans to vote on July 22 to auction 160 MHz of upper C-band spectrum (3.98–4.14 GHz), extending the 2020 C-band clearing effort and creating a combined 440 MHz “super band” for future 5G, 6G, and other wireless services. Satellite operators will receive incentive payments to clear the spectrum by launching new satellites and upgrading infrastructure, while the FAA will also require aircraft altimeter upgrades to ensure compatibility with the new 5G spectrum.
