GSMA highlights spectrum’s role in driving the mobile economy at Tajikistan 5G Forum

26 October 2026 | Dushanbe, Tajikistan

The GSMA participated in the Tajikistan 5G Forum 2026, hosted by the Communication Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with Huawei. The forum brought together government representatives, mobile operators and technology companies to discuss Tajikistan’s 5G development and digital transformation.

Konstantin Savin, Technology Lead, GSMA Eurasia, delivered a presentation titled “Mobile Economics – Spectrum and 5G Development”, sharing the latest GSMA Intelligence insights on 5G adoption, monetisation opportunities and spectrum policies supporting mobile network investment.

Unlocking the economic value of 5G

The presentation highlighted the mobile industry’s $270 billion contribution to Eurasia’s economy in 2025, equivalent to 8.1% of regional GDP, and the rapid global adoption of 5G, which surpassed 2.7 billion connections.

Drawing on international operator experience, GSMA outlined practical approaches to 5G monetisation, including fixed wireless access (FWA), enterprise digital transformation and differentiated connectivity services. The growing relationship between AI and mobile networks was also highlighted as a driver of future demand and innovation.

Spectrum as a foundation for 5G development

The GSMA emphasised the importance of affordable, timely access to spectrum to expand coverage, improve network performance, and encourage investment.

The presentation highlighted the complementary roles of 700 MHz for rural coverage, 3.5 GHz for 5G capacity and upper 6 GHz (6.425–7.125 GHz) for future 5G-Advanced and 6G development. Particular attention was given to the importance of clear spectrum roadmaps and long-term planning to support sustainable network growth.

Tajikistan’s Communication Service is committed to advancing research, testing, and potential deployment of 5G-Advanced and 6G technologies in the upper 6 GHz band, supporting the country’s telecommunications strategy through 2040.

The GSMA continues to work with governments, regulators and mobile operators across Eurasia, sharing global expertise and supporting policies that accelerate 5G development, investment and digital inclusion.
