The GSMA Mobile Economy China report provides the latest trends and insights on the mobile ecosystem in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

This year’s report shows mobile technologies and services contributed $1.2 trillion to the Chinese economy in 2024, representing 6.4% of GDP. The industry’s annual economic impact will reach $2 trillion by 2030, equivalent to 8.3% of GDP, driven by productivity improvements brought by the increased uptake of mobile technologies – including 5G and AI.

The industry surpassed 1 billion 5G connections last year, which now represents 55% of total mobile connections. China is projected to reach 88% 5G adoption by 2030, and Chinese operators at the forefront of developing and deploying 5G-Advanced solutions.

Chinese operators are also playing a leading role in AI development. The country’s three largest operators are all developing AI models and solutions for enterprises, for applications including industrial production, precision agriculture and fraud prevention.
