John Hoffman
Executive Chairman and Director, GSMA Ltd
John Hoffman is Executive Chairman and Director of GSMA Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the GSMA. In this role, he provides strategic leadership and governance, working closely with the Board of Directors and executive leadership to support the organisation’s long-term vision, growth and success. He focuses on fostering and strengthening strategic relationships with host city partners across Barcelona, Shanghai and Doha, reinforcing the GSMA’s long-standing partnerships and supporting the continued success and global impact of its flagship events. John also represents GSMA Ltd. in engagements with key stakeholders, industry leaders and strategic partners, advancing the organisation’s mission and long-term objectives.
Prior to his appointment as Chairman, John served as Chief Executive Officer and Director of GSMA Ltd., where he led the organisation’s commercial businesses, including its portfolio of award-winning trade shows and conferences, online, print and broadcast media properties, industry research services, and a range of network managed services. He brings more than 25 years of leadership experience to the GSMA.
Before joining the GSMA, John was Chief Executive Officer and Director of fastmobile, Inc., a supplier of software-based network operator solutions. Prior to fastmobile, he was Chief Executive Officer and Director of Roamware, Inc., a global provider of voice and data roaming solutions.
In addition, John has held executive leadership positions at several mobile telecommunications companies, including BellSouth, Pocket Communications and SONOFON. He has also served as an independent mobile industry consultant, leading projects with the GSMA, BellSouth, Palm and PCSOne, among others.
John is a member of the Future Trends Forum, Bankinter’s global think tank focused on issues impacting Spanish society and businesses. He serves on the Board of Directors of GSMA Ltd. and on the Board of the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation. He is also the author of Wireless Evolution Insider by the GSMA and GPRS Demystified, published by McGraw-Hill Professional.
John holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architecture from the University of Michigan, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and is a licensed architect in the State of Colorado.
