Accelerating 5G and 5G-Advanced in Philippines

The Philippines was the first country in the ASEAN region to launch commercial 5G networks in June 2019. However, nationwide roll-out of high-quality 5G and 5G-Advanced connectivity is hampered by a lack of large contiguous blocks of IMT spectrum, and much work remains to ensure ubiquitous coverage.

This report examines the state of 5G spectrum planning and implementation in the Philippines and discusses key issues and challenges in securing sufficient spectrum resources for 5G, particularly in the mid-bands. It then provides recommendations for the best way forward.
