To understand the strengths and limitations of AI models and provide directions for 5G+AI improvement – a call for network performance improvement results arising from the addition of wireless network intelligence solutions. 

• compare and assess the performance gain of wireless network capabilities before and after applying AI models in wireless network
• form the testing methodology for testing and evaluating AI models applied wireless network capabilities, including testing tools, testing environment, testing metrics, etc.
• evaluate the network intelligence level of different network capabilities to determine the improvement direction of wireless network intelligence

Challenge Performance Improvement of 5G / 5G-A RAN Capability Resulting From Addition of Wireless Network intelligence

What is the Goal?

The goal is to encourage the application of AI in 5G networks, while assessing the intelligent capabilities and levels of data processing, analysis, and model inference of network elements. This assessment aims to identify which networks and terminals in the network require further enhancement in their intelligent capabilities, and to identify the corresponding assessment methods and tools that are still lacking.

What will be assessed in the Challenge?

Implemented innovative impactful use of AI in 5G application solutions to be assessed in Test Lab , from which shortlist and winner will be selected.  

The assessment of the  end to end network solution will include, but not be limited to,  assessment of the following elements:

• End-to-end network performance improvement
• Testing equipment: includes but not limited to user manuals and application instructions. 
• Testing cases: applies the testing equipment mentioned above, and introduces the testing methods, testing environment and scenarios, and testing configurations, as well as give the observable testing results. 
• Evaluation metrics – According to the description of testing cases, presenting as many observable evaluation indicators as possible is encouraged.

Steps & Timelines for Wireless Intelligence Challenge

1. SUBMISSIONS – Ensure that you have submitted your Expression of Interest by April 30th 2025. 

2. SELECTION – A GTI and GSMA representative from the selection committee will analyse all the Expressions of Interest received to select Applicants to move forward to onboard to Test Lab.
3. TEST LAB ASSESSMENT – The laboratory evaluates the application solution effectiveness (such as whether the testing equipment can be implemented and widely promoted, and the actual gains achieved by the application), indicator analysis (whether it is diverse and observable, that is, it directly reflects the network intelligence capability without requiring complex calculations or other further processes), and test environment customization (the test environment should be non-customized, indicating that it should exist in the current real network, or be extracted based on the common needs of the current network).  
4. SHORTLIST & WINNERS SELECTION – selection committee evaluates Test Lab assessments.
5. WINNER & SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED – September 2025.
