East Kentucky Network, LLC d/b/a Appalachian Wireless

East Kentucky Network, LLC d/b/a Appalachian Wireless was established in 1990 and is a major regional wireless carrier serving twenty-five counties in eastern Kentucky, two counties in Virginia and two counties in West Virginia. EKN’s headquarters are based in Ivel, Kentucky. EKN has approximately 200 employees, over 290 cell sites, over 135,000 subscribers, and a 375-mile redundant fiber ring that connects it with its five owners/partners.

EKN is owned in equal parts by five rural telecommunications providers located in eastern Kentucky. Each of the Partners has been a service provider in the region for more than sixty years. The Partners’ subsidiaries have expanded their operations to offer advanced telecommunications and data services beyond their operating areas. EKN has fiber to its cell sites in the majority of its service area. EKN and affiliates have over 450 employees and 6,000 route miles of fiber optic cable in service in eastern Kentucky.
