Session 1: Digital Assets Landscape

Time: 10:15 – 11:15

With the valuation of the digital asset class now greater than the GDP of individual countries, digital currencies are now mainstream. Whether crypto, CBDC’s or stablecoin, digital currencies are now a high-profile news item powering the debate on the token economy. Similarly, NFTs are emerging as an exciting proposition.

In this session, we will explore the key trends and the opportunities for the mobile eco-system.

Session 2: The Rise of Scam Attacks

Time: 11:30 – 12:15

As Commerce uses increasingly sophisticated technology to fight fraud, there is a growing trend of fraudsters now deploying social engineering scams as an attack vector.

This session will explore how increased collaboration between key stakeholders across the eco-system has enabled the development of innovative solutions to increase security and enhance user experience.

Session 3: Web3.0 – The Metaverse

Time: 12:30 – 13:30

Whilst the subject of much media interest it’s also true that metaverse is now a common term featuring frequently in major tech companies’ earnings calls and a significant focus of the strategy. Often referenced as web 3.0, it’s a term used to describe the evolution of the internet, a future state blending physical and digital experiences, including identity, payments, entertainment, and social media, whilst also unlocking new digital business models.

In our session at MWC will explore the current landscape, the vision and the implications and opportunities for the mobile eco-system.

Session 4:  FinTech Disruption 

Time: 14:15 – 15:15

Over the past decade, mobile networks have been leveraging fintech partnerships to create market entry strategies with innovative, disruptive propositions creating substantial new value pools for shareholders.

At the same time, the power of fintech has been witnessed with the emergence of new digital-only propositions and incumbents harnessing fintech to accelerate growth strategies.

In our focus on disruption, we will examine case studies of how fintech is enabling the creation of powerful, disruptive propositions that are redefining the market.

Session 5: Transformation of Payments

Time: 15:30 – 16:15

Recent years has seen an explosion in mobile wallet-based payment solutions offering real convenience to consumers, with a number developing into super apps. Digital currencies create a real threat of disintermediation and new regulation such as Open Banking is increasing competition. There have been huge disruptions in e-commerce and point-of-sale (pos) payments with new value propositions delivering seamless experiences and displacing cash. IoT technologies- watches, fridges, cars, smart speakers-are creating multiple payment opportunities and transforming the payment experience. The growth of electronic transactions is accelerating. In this session, industry experts will review the key developments and discuss what’s next for future payments.

Richard Cockle

Head of IoT, Identity and Big Data, GSMA

Richard heads an international team at the GSMA and is responsible for developing new innovative products and services beyond the core network in IoT, Identity and Big Data for the mobile ecosystem

As the key lead for GSMA engagements in the vertical industries, specifically; FinTech, Automotive, Aviation and Manufacturing, Richard has recently launched the GSMA Innovation Foundry, creating a collaborative platform for GSMA members and partners to work together on the major challenges facing the industry. 

In addition, Richard is responsible for the GSMA’s Strategy Group which regularly convenes to address strategic topics within the industry and supports the GSMA Board. 

Brian Gorman

FinTech Vertical Lead, GSMA

Brian is the FinTech Vertical Lead at GSMA leading activities to enhance collaboration between the Financial Services vertical and the mobile eco-system. This reflects the strategy requested by the GSMA board to get closer to key verticals and better understand their needs.

His career includes product and commercial management in banking and mobile telecoms including O2, Lloyds and Barclays. As well as Telecomms, heading up the Digital Product team, Commerce, at Telefonica UK.

 

Lauren Jones

Senior Advisor in Payments Standardization and Policy , Huawei

Lauren Jones is a Senior Advisor in Payments Standardisation and Policy at Huawei where she is responsible for advising on policy and industrial strategy considerations in relation to payment services in Europe and international markets. She is also responsible for Huawei’s engagement in payment standards and industry bodies across Europe.

Lauren has over 10 years’ experience in the payments and fintech. In previous roles Lauren has been Head of Standards at Payments UK (now Pay.UK), responsible for the standards policy and direction in the UK payments market. She has held UK Head of Delegation positions at ISO and European Payments Council as well as various Ad-Hoc Groups within the European Central Bank, UK Open Banking Implementation Entity, SWIFT and the Berlin Group. She has assisted fintech organizations in their standards and GTM strategy and worked across a number of functions, including senior roles in industry standards, government engagement and regulation.

Keiron Dalton

VP International, Prove

Keiron is responsible for the UK and supports international growth at Prove. His career covers all facets of the mobile operator identity ecosystem, with spells at the GSMA, BT and as a service provider. Keiron believes a prototype is worth a thousand meetings. 

Glyn Povah

Head of Product Mobile Identity, Telefónica Tech AI of Things

Glyn is Global Product Director at Luca,Telefonica’s division specifically focused on creating propositions from insights. Working with the UK banks he helped create the initial sim swap product which is now part of Telefonica’s core offering across its global markets.

Zhang Yi

Senior Solution Architect, Ant Group Singapore

Zhang Yi is a Senior Solution Architect at Ant Group Singapore. He delivers Ant Group’s home-grown AI-based solutions to Asia financial institutions, fintech and telco companies, helping them to be more compliant and protected. Zhang Yi has more than 10 years of experience in the field of identity proofing, biometrics, security, anti-fraud management and AML. As an MBA graduate from the National University of Singapore, Zhang Yi endeavours to apply technologies in solving business problems.

Prior to Ant Group, he was one of the founding members of Jumio APAC where he witnessed the early adoption of identifying proofing in the APAC region. Prior to Jumio, he served as product manager in UL for payment and telecom functional test software. He has extensive knowledge in payment systems, regulatory and risk technologies.

George Held

Chief of Staff , Veon

George is a digital telco executive with broad international experience. He is driven by a commitment and desire to add significant value through the introduction of sustainable, market-relevant, digital services that impact people’s lives, while simultaneously delivering high commercial impact for all stakeholders. 
He has been publicly recognized and awarded for driving and implementing several market-leading transformational initiatives in the international telco sector including 14 GSMA GLOMO awards.
Prior to Veon, he held senior executive positions with-in Etisalat, Zain, Airtel and Millicom Groups.

Jens Herrmann

Innovation and technology is a passion for Jens, Senior Expert Corporate Strategy at Deutsche Telekom. Being in the telco business for more than 18 years now, he combines his technology and business background with entrepreneurship, foresight topics, as well as strategy and investment work. Jens is driving and advising major blockchain and crypto related developments at DT.

Sitoyo Lopokoiyit

CEO M-PESA Africa & Chief Officer Financial Services , Safaricom

 Sitoyo Lopokoiyit is a mobile-financial services expert, who has managed mobile money in two of the largest markets in the world (Kenya & Tanzania). In his current role as Managing Director – M-Pesa Africa and Acting Chief Financial Services Officer at Safaricom PLC, he is responsible for managing and growing M-PESA which has earned revenues of over $700 million, with the service growing at over 19% year on year. 

He is a passionate, energetic and easy-going leader, who has delivered major innovations that have revolutionized the global mobile money space and driven financial inclusion such as the world’s first contextual over draft facility dubbed- Fuliza, Mshwari a savings and loan proposition, M-PESA Global Payments, and partnerships with Paypal and Ali Express. 

Prior to joining Safaricom PLC, he served as the M-Commerce Director at Vodacom Tanzania PLC , where he led the turnaround strategy for the adoption and execution of M-PESA which resulted in the accelerated growth of M-PESA in Tanzania. He also oversaw the delivery of several other transformative products and services like the delivery of Mobile Money G2 platform, M-PESA APP, interoperable transactions for both peer to peer transfers and merchant payments, Business to Business payments, M-PESA CVM and Merchant Payments. 

He is currently the Chairman of M-PESA Limited (Tanzania) and CEO of Safaricom Money Transfer Services Limited. 

Sitoyo has over 15 years’ senior managerial experience from different fields; oil & Gas (Chevron and Total Kenya Ltd) and in the Retail industry within Kenya. He has worked extensively in the East Africa Region as well as in Mauritius and Reunion. 

Sitoyo holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree in Marketing from the University of Nairobi (2000) and an MSc in Information Technology Management and Organizational Change from Lancaster University in UK. 

George Cray

Senior Vice President – Product, iconectiv

George Cray is the Senior Vice President – Product for iconectiv. He leads a team of product managers responsible for iconectiv’s platforms and several industry registries. 

Cray has over 30 years of experience providing the product, sales and service solution strategies to telecom network management firms and top tier service providers. He previously held leadership roles at JDS Uniphase (now Viavi Systems), Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) and Bellcore. Cray had expanded roles starting in systems engineering and growing to lead global product line management, sales and marketing organizations over his career.

Cray holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and his Master of Business Administration in Finance from Rutgers University.

 

 

Sulabh Agarwal

Managing Director Global Payments Lead, Accenture

As Accenture’s global lead for Payments, Sulabh helps financial institutions and other organizations across the world navigate the shifting payments landscape, combat lost payments revenue, and control and mitigate operational risk throughout the payments value chain. Throughout his career, Sulabh has directed numerous client engagements ranging from defining strategy through to systems integration and implementation. Prior to Accenture, Sulabh worked for Capital One in the cards business. Outside of work, Sulabh likes to spend time with his wife and three kids. He is an engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology and has an MBA from INSEAD. He was recently awarded the Payments Power 10, recognizing him as payments industry leader and innovator in 2021.

Sophia Bantanidis

Analyst, Future of Finance, Citi Global Insights

Sophia Bantanidis is an Analyst in the Future of Finance team within Citi Global Insights covering trends on digital and FinTech and how they will shape the future of financial services. She joined Citi in 2016 as the Head of Regulatory Strategy and Policy for Innovation and has held various positions at 2 financial services regulators in the UK and France, numerous banks and an asset management firm.

In April 2021 she was awarded Greek International Woman of the Year in Finance and is on the Women in FinTech Powerlist for 4 consecutive years. She enjoys mentoring start-ups and is on the advisory board of P.S. Online Styling a female led start up in fashion technology.

She speaks 5 languages, has a degree in Law and German Law from University College London and the University of Cologne and a Master’s degree in European Business from ESCP Europe.

Astha Bhardwaj

Managing Director, Communications & Media Industry, Accenture Strategy & Consulting

Astha has 15 years of experience in Telecommunications and Consulting spanning Business Strategy, CX & Digital Transformation, Value Creation and B2X growth acceleration. She is currently responsible for driving digital & AI powered marketing, sales & service solutions for the Communications & Media industry in the ASIAM region (Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Middle East, India, SE Asia).

Consumer growth (B2C & B2B2C) is an an area of strength for her, having shaped propositions that help telcos not only grow their core business but also diversify beyond connectivity into non traditional/digital services like home, fintech, gaming, loyalty et al, taking advantage of the platform economy to boost both topline and market value.

Luis is the Founder and CEO of Mawari. In this role, his mission is to enable Synthetic Reality for everyone. He is committed to experimenting and developing with emerging technologies such as 5G, cloud rendering and streaming, in order to build a patent pending 3D Streaming CODEC for Mawari 3DXR Content Streaming Platform, a next-generation XR distribution technology for the metaverse.

He also served as a Global Head of Marketing at MUSIC Tribe, one of the world’s largest holding companies for pro audio and music instruments.

Julia is a strategy and business development executive, with over 20 years of experience within blue-chip organizations specializing in Telecom & Media, blockchain, crypto, and start-up ecosystems. Technology and Innovation have been the core themes and passion across his professional journey of launching greenfield telecom operators, transforming technology stacks and delivering new age solutions to solve real life problems for both B2B and B2B2C.

Yabx is a fintech venture, leveraging technology and analytics to reduce the cost of delivering financial services in a scalable and sustainable manner. Brian J. Smyth

Brian leads innovation for Accenture’s Communications and Media Industry globally with a focus on the metaverse, Web3 and the future of the internet. He has a passion for technology since receiving a Sega Megadrive as a child and loves that he gets to combine this with solving for human needs, working with clients to ignite change in The Dock, Accenture’s global R&D and Innovation centre in Dublin, which he helped set up in 2016.  Over the past 15 years Brian has helped leading organisations to expand globally, accelerate product development cycles and embed a culture of innovation.  Outside of Accenture, Brian served as Irish President of Junior Chamber International, the worldwide leadership development organisation and sits on the Governing Authority of his alma mater, Dublin City University.

 

Tad Brockway

CVP for Azure for Operators Program Management , Microsoft

Tad is a 24-year veteran of Microsoft and has been in leadership roles on the Microsoft Azure team since 2011.  

 

Tad’s team is responsible for Azure for Operators Program Management. In this role, Tad is the product leader for Microsoft mobility platform technologies, including those which enable customers and partners to adopt 5G. This portfolio includes products resulting from the acquisitions of Affirmed Networks & Metaswitch Networks. 

 

Tad has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Western Washington University and an MBA from the University of Washington. When not at work, Tad enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids, along with mountain biking and running. 

Jim McKelvey

Jim McKelvey is a serial entrepreneur, inventor, philanthropist, artist, and author of The Innovation Stack: Building an Unbeatable Business One Crazy Idea at a Time. He is the cofounder of Block (formerly Square), and served as the chairman of its board until 2010, and still serves on the Board of Directors. In 2011, his iconic card reader design was inducted into the Museum of Modern Art. In 2017, McKelvey founded Invisibly, an ambitious project to unlock the value of peoples’ personal data. As senior managing director and global digital experiences lead, Jason is responsible for driving technology-enabled experience transformation. Key stakeholders within his remit include employees, clients, partners and acquisitions as well as coalitions like People Plus Work Connect.

He is also responsible for Accenture’s global social enterprise strategy, introducing the technologies and capabilities required for all Accenture people to engage in their work in a frictionless, social and collaborative way. Supporting employees in this area includes developing and managing content, social programs, search capabilities, publishing and collaboration applications, video/broadcast services and enabling the future digital workplace.

Jason has more than two decades of experience in various aspects of business and technology consulting, outsourcing and operations. He was instrumental in the rollout of Microsoft Teams to more than 500,000 Accenture people, which has helped to not only maintain business continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic, but also has been an essential ingredient in fulfilling the organization’s mission to be an elastic digital workplace.

Prior to his current role, Jason built his career managing technology transformations in the utilities, natural resources and energy industries. Jason’s early work involved large-scale system implementations and application outsourcing projects.

Jason lives in Tampa, Florida and has a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from the University of South Florida. In his spare time, he volunteers as an executive mentor in a non-profit organization to help guide people through the process of building, launching and growing a successful technology startup and serves on the Board of Directors of Tampa Bay Tech where he recently was chairman of the board.
