This GSMA seminar explores new mobile operator roles for IoT services and platforms beyond connectivity. Key insights will be provided on emerging capabilities and trends which enable revenue growth in the IoT industry, including the use of technology enablers such as distributed ledgers, machine learning and edge computing.

Mr Liu Yuan

Senior Technical Director, China Mobile

Yuan is senior technical director of China Mobile IoT subsidiary, in charge of development of China Mobile’s IoT platform named OneNET and recently he is focusing on the building the cloud native IoT infrastructure that could scale out linearly across several data centers. Yuan has been an active code contributor to various open source projects, such as Sheepdog, QEMU, TCMU, Linux Kernel, XEN and Openstack. Before He joined China Mobile, he worked for Alibaba Groups on cloud infrastructure, such as kernel, distributed storage system, etc. Before Alibaba, he was working at OTC( Opensource Technology Center) of Intel Shanghai on x86 hardware assisted virtualization.

Luke Wang

Director, IoT Solution Management, Far EasTone

Luke Wang joined Far EasTone in November 2017. Luke Wang has over 20 years of experience in various segments of communications industry with job roles in product and solution management, technical sales, network engineering, and software development.

John Gole

Research Director, Telecoms & Networking, CEMA, IDC

John Gole is IDC’s lead European analyst on telecom service provider’s strategies in the IoT market. He advises operators on their business plans, service portolios, partnering strategies and opportunity assessment. He is a member of IDC Europe’s Telecoms and IoT research practices.Mr. Gole previously managed IDC’s research and consulting business in the telecoms sector across Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. He is a regular speaker at industry events and conferences, he holds an MBA from London Business School and Columbia Business School, and he holds a Master of Arts degree from Georgetown University’s Graduate School of Foreign Service

Mohammad Chowdhury

Partner, PwC

Mohammad is a Partner at PwC Australia and the firm’s Telecom, Media and Technology lead partner in Australia, NZ and SE Asia.He has 28 years’ experience covering public policy, strategy and regulation focusing on the intersect between industry, economy and society, and worked in over 80 countries.He advises telecom operators, city and government clients, and previously undertook executive roles for Vodafone and IBM.Mohammad served as Adviser to the Government of Myanmar authoring the country’s first telecom masterplan,has advised the World Bank and the UN Broadband Commission on internet of things, eHealth and the 4th Industrial Revolution and serves on the board of a number of technology-focused startups.

Sriram Venkataramani

Senior Director, Product Management, M2M/IoT, Singtel

Sriram Venkataramani is the Senior Director of Product Management for M2M/IoT at Singtel, one of Asia’s leading ICT service provider. He is responsible for product development, management and go-to-market aspects of M2M/IoT. He has over 25 years of technology experience and has worked in the areas of product management, network design, engineering, operations, customer support and project management. Before moving to Singapore in 2009, he worked in the USA for almost 10 years, in companies such as SBC Communications (AT&T) and Applied Materials Inc. Sriram has a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, India. He also holds an MBA from Temple University, PA, USA.

Neil Young

IoT Emerging Enablers Lead, GSMA

Neill is IoT Enablers Lead in the IoT team at the GSMA, working with mobile operators on Edge Computing for IoT. He has over 10 years experience of building M2M and IoT services and ecosystems within both mobile network operators and vertical service providers. Neill has been involved with programmes such as the rollout of smart meters and smart grid, introduction of connectivity for the first connected cars and development of several IoT strategies and standards for the home and city. He has most recently worked with mobile operators on building their smart city strategies. As IoT Enablers Lead, Neill is currently working on new roles for mobile operators in the IoT market that are being enabled by emerging technologies such as Edge Computing, Distributed Ledger and 5G.
