Carsten Ahrens

Carsten Ahrens is Chief Executive Officer of Giesecke+Devrient Mobile Security, a leading global provider of physical and digital solutions for private banks, connectivity service providers, chip and hardware manufacturers.

Having completed his studies in electrical engineering at University of Hannover, he brings more than 25 years of experience in various management positions in international telecommunications and IT companies.

Prior to his current position he served as CEO/CTO of Funkwerk AG and CEO Ericsson, Germany.

His professional career includes software development for the first GSM network in the world, running the Strategic Product Management for Telco Management Solutions at Ericsson in Sweden and in building up Ericsson Consulting in Germany. He’s also build up Atos Origin’s (now Atos) telco business in in Germany.

Elena Gil Lizasoain

Global Director of Product & Business Operations, Telefonica

Elena is the Global Director of Product & Business Operations at Telefonica IoT& Big Data, helping enterprises and governments in their digital transformation
through the combination of Internet of things, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence.

She holds a degree in Economics and Business studies from Deusto University (Spain) and an MBA from MIT-Sloan School of Management (USA). She has also completed studies at Berkeley University (USA) and EDHEC de Lille (France).

Elena joined Telefonica in 2000. Since then, she has held prominent managerial positions at Telefonica International and Telefonica Latinoamérica, in the units of Large Corporations, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) and Consumer businesses.

From 2014 to 2016, Elena was the BI & Big Data Global Director at Telefonica Group, responsible for leveraging customer insights for internal use and external monetization, leading the transformation of Telefónica into a data-driven company.
In 2016, Elena was designated CEO of LUCA, Telefonica´s Data unit to provide Big Data & AI services to corporate customers.

Before joining Telefonica, she worked for McKinsey and HI Holding – Iberdrola (Spain) and Mitchel Madison Group (USA).

Fabien Petitgrand

CTO, Ubiik

Fabien currently heads Ubiik’s software development team and technology strategy. Prior to joining Ubiik in 2016, Fabien was with MStar France SAS as System Lead and MStar Semiconductor Inc. (acquired by Mediatek) as Special Assistant to the President from 2006 to 2013. His works centered on the development of 2G/3G/4G cellular technologies, including cellular modem algorithm design and implementation for GSM, WCDMA and TD-SCDMA,
SoC architecture, MCU, and DSP instruction-set design and optimization, and DSP implementation of audio processing like voice codecs and Echo Cancellation. From 2013 to 2016 he was a Member of Technical Staff at M2COMM, contributing to the technology development and technical support of ESL products, as well as the
SoC architecture and commercialization which resulted
in a multi-region Sigfox-certified communication chipset.

Fabien holds a Research Degree in Digital Communications Systems from Telecom ParisTech and a Master of Engineering in Telecommunications and Signal Processing from Ecole Supérieure d’Ingénieurs en Electrotechnique et Electronique.

Friedrich Trawoeger

Senior Vice President, Cloud & Cognitive Services, Nokia

Friedrich Trawoeger currently holds the role of Senior Vice President of Cloud and Cognitive Services Business Unit in CNS (Cloud and Network Services).

He is known as a visionary global leader and seasoned senior executive with over 20 years of experience in managing complex and large-scale businesses and strategic global projects. His expertise includes strategic leadership, business and solution incubation and operations transformation and turnaround management.

Previously to joining Nokia , he has held several roles in Alcatel and later Alcatel-Lucent including Vice President of Managed Services, Vice-President of Alcatel-Lucent’s Services Business in CIS, Central and Southern Europe, Vice-President Services Delivery for APAC, when he was based in New Zealand he was heading the Services Business for New Zealand and the South-Pacific.

Hanspeter Bobst

CEO, Rohde & Schwarz SwissQual

Hanspeter is an entrepreneur, visionary and a technology enthusiast, and works in the telecommunication business for more than 20 years. Hanspeter was one of the founders of SwissQual AG in the year 2000, initially responsible for R&D and Product Management for Mobile Network testing products.

When SwissQual became part of Rohde&Schwarz in 2013, Hanspeter took over the role as the CEO of SwissQual.

In his role, he managed and ran several digital transformation projects such as the introduction of Cloud, Big Data and Machine Learning methodologies in Mobile Network Testing.
He is also highly interested in topics such as Smart Cities, Smart Homes, IoT, smart energy management, new mobility, etc.

Igor Tovberg

Director of Product Marketing, Sony Semiconductor IL

Igor Tovberg is Director of Product Marketing at Sony Semiconductor Israel, where he oversees global markets, partners, customers and new business collaborations within the cellular IoT ecosystem. He has vast expertise in Product and Marketing in the Telecom and Semiconductor industry, including 15 years hands-on experience in hardware and software design with wireless, digital, and power systems.

Igor acts as Vice-Chair at the GSMA 5G IoT Strategy Group and heads the energy efficiency subgroup activities.

He holds a Master’s degree in Management of Technology and Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Jim Morrish

Founding Partner, Transforma Insights

Jim is a respected Digital Transformation and Internet of Things industry expert, with over 20 years’ experience of strategy consulting, operations management and telecoms research.

Previously he was a Founder and the Chief Research Officer of Machina Research, the world’s leading IoT analyst firm, which was acquired by Gartner in 2016.

Jim is responsible for the addition of the term Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) networking to the lexicon of the IoT, and is a co-author of the Ignite|IoT project management framework for IoT and the accompanying book entitled “Enterprise IoT”.

He is an experienced conference speaker including for blue chip events such as the IET’s Pinkerton Lecture, and the GSMA’s Mobile World Congress.

Jim was until recently Co-Chair of the Digital Transformation Working Group of the Industrial Internet Consortium. Additionally, he is a member of the advisory boards for a number of digital transformation industry conferences and is a Member of the Global Advisory Board of the IET’s Future Technology Panel.

Jim has a degree in Mathematics and a Master of Arts from the University of Oxford.

Loic Bonvarlet oversees Product Management and Marketing for Kigen, helping to facilitate adoption and scalability of a secure, integrated and cost effective cellular IoT. He has more than 20 years of experience in Telecoms, wireless, security and IoT in development, support, technical sales and product marketing.

Prior to Kigen, Loic Bonvarlet worked at Arm (2018-2020) as Product Marketing Director, Secure Identity notably to develop and promote Kigen Portfolio and first iSIM projects.

In his previous Gemalto role, Loic Bonvarlet was leading IoT Services Product Marketing including the Gemalto IoT platform and Security Solutions (Trusted Key Manager and Secure Element). As North America Application Engineering Director, he helped key cellular module customers to successfully go to market.

Loic holds a Master of Engineering in Telecoms and networks from Grenoble Institute of Technology.

Luke Ibbetson

Head of Group R&D, Vodafone

Luke Ibbetson has been with Vodafone since 1996 and currently leads the Vodafone Group Research and Development organisation, responsible for all aspects of future research including trials of emerging / disruptive technologies, new industry partnerships and the creation of future revenue engines through advanced technology. Luke is an active participant in Industry Initiatives including 5GAA (Board member), Chairman of the NGMN 5G Board Committee, Advisory Board for UK TechWorks, and Board member for several venture backed new technology companies in which Vodafone has invested. Luke is a proud pioneer of Narrow Band IoT technology and currently shaping Vodafone’s thinking on 6G. Luke is a passionate supporter of innovative thinking, helping to create new opportunities for technology to change lives and society for the better.

Matt Hatton

Founding Partner, Transforma Insights

Matt is a well-respected commentator and technology industry expert with 25 years’ experience at the cutting edge of technology research and consulting. He is a thought-leader in Telecommunications, Digital Transformation and the Internet of Things. He is widely quoted in trade publications and frequent speaker at conferences. In 2020 Matt co-wrote a book ‘The Internet of Things Myth’.

Matt is currently Founding Partner at Transforma Insights, the leading advisors on IoT, AI and Digital Transformation. Previously he was Founder and CEO of Machina Research, which was acquired by Gartner in 2016. Prior to founding Machina Research Matt was a technology industry analyst, working at firms including Analysys Mason and Yankee Group.

Mona Parsa-Moghadam

Mona Parsa is senior product manager in Deutsche Telekom IoT. She is an IoT enthusiasts who believes in the value of simplicity in this market. In this regard, she put her career focus to enable products for the customers, which serve this goal.

Mona completed her master degree in communication engineering in Germany and since then occupied various technical and management positions within Deutsche Telekom.

Nicolas Damour

Senior Director for Strategic Partnerships , Sierra Wireless

Nicolas Damour is Senior Director for Strategic Partnerships at Sierra Wireless, responsible for innovation projects with industry partners and market adoption of next generation IoT technologies and services. He has been working at Sierra Wireless for twelve years, strengthening the company’s position as global provider of field-to-cloud IoT solutions that include hardware, connectivity and cloud services. He is currently chairing the GSMA IoT Terminal Steering Group.

Sameer Vuyyuru

Head of WW Business Development for Communication Service Providers, Amazon Web Services

Sameer Vuyyuru is currently the Head of WW Business Development for Communication Service Providers at Amazon Web Services (AWS). His team works with all of the leading players in the Telco ecosystem in the co-pursuit of transforming the way networks and network services are built and monetized in the future.

Sameer is a Customer Obsessed veteran of the Telecommunications Industry. He prides him on delivering Value through Innovation to the Telecommunications Ecosystem Worldwide. Sameer was most recently the Co-Founder and CEO of Wayz.ai, a Shanghai based AI start-up delivering Predictive Network Services for Self-Organizing Networks. Prior accomplishments in the Telco space include helping launch the first ever 40G and 100G optical transport networks, LoRa (The largest IoT Network as a Service) and numerous other innovations starting from GPRS baseband and driving through the generational upgrades all the way to 5G.

His past roles include SVP/GM at Comtech where he ran the E-911 and Messaging Product lines. His team expanded the market to 86 different Telcos WW through innovating on Network Function virtualization, on AWS for ease of deployment and agility. Prior to that he was SVP/GM at Semtech for the Advanced Communications group. Sameer started his career with Texas Instruments working on system level solutions for 2G Baseband in their Mobile Computing Architecture Labs. Sameer holds an MSEE in Digital Signal Processing from Texas Tech University and an MBA from Southern Methodist University.

Sergio Cozzolino

P.A. International&European Affairs Manager, TIM

Sergio Cozzolino got an Enginering degree in 1992 and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) in 1995. He has been in TIM since 1995 in charge of new services and development on end user products acquiring a significative experience on activities related to SIM and SMART Cards. From 1996 he is taking part to the standardisation activities (ETSI SMG9 and later SCP). He was GSM Association SCAG (Smart Card Application Group) Chairman (2002-2012) and in 2003 he chaired the SIM Task Force within the GSMA. Responsable for TIM for the European Research Progrem SCARAB (1998-1999) and TASSC (1999-2001) Esp@ss (2002-2004). Project Manager for applications based on SIM and Smart cards (FINECO Moving, Easybuy,UIC, … ).He was up to the end of 2002 director of the Smart Card and Services development Dept. In 2003 he was Director of the of the Technical Marketing and System Engineering Dept. for the Corporate Division. From 2004 to 2012 he was in charge of the Innovative ICT Mobile Service development Dept, dedicated to the Corporate Customers. From 2013 to 2014 he was in charge of the Mobile Service Development Dept. for the Consumer Customers. As of 2015 he is in the Innovation Dept taking care of the eSIM project and from June 2014 Chairman of the SIM Group within the GSMA. Since 2016 member of ECSO (European Cyber Security Oraginzation). Since 2020 also Chairman of the GSMA eSIM Group. In 2021 became member of ENISA EU 5G AHWGs.

Sharath Muddaiah

Director of 5G & IoT, Giesecke+Devrient Mobile Security

Sharath has held various senior global sales, marketing and product management roles throughout his career. He has enjoyed working with telco giants Sony, Sony Ericsson and Samsung prior to joining security specialists Giesecke & Devrient. In his current role at G+D, Sharath manages strategic solutions, innovation and partnerships for 5G, Private Networks & the IoT. He is responsible for directing the global rollouts of these next generation secure IoT solutions. Sharath enjoys the challenges and rapid changes in telecoms, while his focus continues being able to work on the good that technology can enable.

Shahbaz Ali

Stephen Douglas

Stephane Quetglas is Director of Marketing for Embedded Products at Thales. He leads the worldwide market research, offer definition, channel strategy and communication activities of the Thales embedded SIM and embedded Secure Elements for the consumer and IoT markets, as well as associated value added services.

Stephane is also Director of the Board at Trusted Connectivity Alliance, formerly known as SIMalliance. He is in charge of defining the organization’s focus and strategic direction in collaboration with the other members of the board.

Prior to his current position, Stephane held roles in R&D, product management, strategic programs and acquisition integration manager within Gemalto. He then joined the IoT Business Line to develop the smart manufacturing business.

Vincent Korstanje is CEO of Kigen. Vincent’s mission is to make eSIM and iSIM the foundation of all connected devices, which led him to found the Kigen group in Arm in 2016. Kigen formed into a separate company in October 2020 to drive this vision to secure trillions of connected devices. Vincent worked for Arm for 22 years in which he helped build the UK’s leading technology company. Before Arm, Vincent worked at TNO in compiler and security technology.

Andrew Parker

Technology Marketing Director, GSMA

Andrew has over 30 years of marketing and product development experience in the telecommunications industry. Andrew has worked with the GSMA Internet of Things Programme since 2011, initially directing the €2m global Connected Life marketing campaign promoting the early growth and development of the M2M market with partners Ericsson, Qualcomm and the GSMA. Andrew has been instrumental in developing collaborative industry marketing activities including the successful Mobile IoT campaign, Innovation City technology experiential marketing, the Mobile IoT Summit series and the Intelligent Connectivity campaign. Before joining the GSMA Andrew developed and managed content services for both Nokia and 3UK, Hutchison Whampoa. Dr Shane Rooney

Senior Technical Director, GSMA

Shane Rooney is a Senior Technical Director at the GSMA, leading activities in IoT and bringing together strategies and synergies across industry verticals and wider IoT ecosystems. Shane had previously led the GSMA’s initiative in developing mobile solutions in Smart Cities and collaborating with cities like Barcelona, Dubai and Shanghai. His team has developed a wider range of Smart City Indicators, Case Studies and Business Cases demonstrating the importance of mobile technology. His team also have developed enablers in IoT Security and embedded SIM. He has led the launch of the Cellular LPWA Networks Technology (LTE-M and NB-IoT) initiative globally and is now promoting Cellular V2X technology. Previously he has been a Group Vice President with Etisalat, developing solutions for Energy, Security and Transport IoT solutions for Middle East, Africa and Asia. Before that he has worked with other Mobile Operators, Vodafone, Hutchison and 3 UK as well as launching and divesting of his own M2M company. Shane pioneered early telematics and connected car solutions for Ford Motor Company in the USA and Europe. He has extensive Global experience. He holds a PhD in Communications Systems specialising in Location Based Services and studied Business Marketing at IMD Switzerland.
