Promoting digital literacy across Europe
“It takes a village to raise a child”, according to the well-known proverb and that is now true online as well as offline. Parents, grandparents, teachers and other caregivers play an important role in supporting children in their digital spaces.
With this in mind, Deutsche Telekom runs a pan-European initiative called Teachtoday, which promotes the safe and responsible use of technology. The Teachtoday website contains advice for parents, grandparents and education professionals – about issues such as fake news and hate speech – so they feel more confident engaging with young people in a world where media is part of everyday life.
Teachtoday is available in seven languages, including German, Polish and Montenegrin. On Safer Internet Day 2018, Deutsche Telekom and Teachtoday invited children to join them in the Deutsches Museum in Bonn to ‘create, connect and share respect’. The Teachtoday Facebook page has more than 75,000 likes.
