Scope 3 represents the majority of Singtel Group’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, accounting for 87.5% of total Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in FY2026. Singtel has a Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated target to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions (incl Category 11) by 40% by 2030 from a FY2023 baseline. Improving the energy efficiency of customer premises equipment therefore engaging our value chain, reducing downstream emissions.
In November 2025, Singtel Singapore piloted EcoWiFi, an energy-efficient feature on Singtel WiFi 7 routers. Through the Singtel app, broadband customers can schedule unused WiFi frequency bands to pause during low-usage periods, such as overnight, while maintaining essential connectivity. This reduces unnecessary energy consumption at no cost to the customer, and without requiring customers to switch off their router.
EcoWiFi helps customers reduce unnecessary household electricity consumption while supporting more energy-efficient digital lifestyles. The pilot has demonstrated lower electricity consumption which translates into electricity cost savings for customers, with the feature available at no additional cost. For Singtel, reducing the electricity consumed by customer premises equipment contributes to reducing Scope 3 Category 11 – Use of Sold Products emissions. As customer adoption increases, EcoWiFi has the potential to deliver greater energy and emissions savings at scale.
As EcoWiFi is still relatively new, a key challenge has been encouraging customer uptake and use of the feature through the MySingtel app. This highlighted the importance of complementing technology with sustained customer awareness and engagement. Singtel plans to ramp up marketing efforts to increase adoption and help more customers understand the benefits of EcoWiFi in reducing unnecessary electricity consumption and potentially lower their electricity bills.
EcoWiFi was developed through cross-functional collaboration between Singtel’s Networks and Broadband Marketing teams. The idea was supported through an internal ideas challenge, bringing together technical expertise, sustainability considerations and customer insights to develop the feature.
