Telstra – Powering more renewable energy than consumed

Telstra uses over 1,000 GWh of electricity in Australia, making them one of the nation’s largest electricity consumers. In 2020, Telstra set a target to enable renewable energy generation equivalent to 100 per cent of its electricity consumption by December 20251.

To meet this target, Telstra has partnered with solar and wind farm developers through long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to increase renewable energy generation in Australia’s electricity grid.

Telstra’s investments in seven projects across Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales have supported new renewable energy projects worth $1.6 billion and contracted 868 MW of renewable capacity. To date, we have not claimed the use of renewable energy from the projects ourselves, nor has it directly contributed to our 2030 scope 1+2 emissions reduction target. These investments support Australia’s renewable energy transition and have helped us manage energy costs by reducing exposure to electricity price volatility.

For the six months ended December 2025, Telstra exceeded its target – enabling renewable energy generation equivalent to 121 per cent of its electricity consumption. This increased to 138 per cent for FY26.

Many of the PPAs in place will continue to at least 2030 and their generation equivalent to Telstra’s consumption will continue to be tracked.
