About us

The  Central Insights Unit (CIU) sits at the core of GSMA Mobile for Development (M4D) and leads digital research on how technology can advance sustainable and inclusive development. We produce country- and region-specific research and analysis on the role and impact of digital technologies across emerging markets.

Our digital research spans a wide range of themes, including digital inclusion, gender equality, financial inclusion, agriculture, health, utilities, humanitarian action and climate action. This cross-cutting approach allows us to identify emerging opportunities and trends across the digital development landscape.

Through rigorous analysis and applied digital research, our work directly supports international donors, policymakers and practitioners as they build expertise and capacity to advance digitalisation initiatives in low- and middle-income countries.
