The company
SmartWTI provides and delivers smart and innovative technology solutions.
The problem
SmartWTI is addressing the severe water crisis in Jordan’s northern governorates, which has been exacerbated by the Syrian refugee crisis. With a chronic water deficit of 30%, and 40% increased demand due to the influx of refugees to the area, the challenge is acute and affects both host communities and the 661,670 Syrian refugees, who now account for 20% of Jordan’s population.
Higher demand for water has put a strain on water infrastructure, and a lack of data on wasted water, poor collaboration and insufficient incentives for maintenance have exacerbated the problem.
GSMA project
In November 2024, SmartWTI received a GSMA grant to introduce Blue Future for Schools – a water management solution that revolutionises water management in Jordan’s refugee-hosting communities by using AI and IoT technology to monitor and control water usage in real time.
SmartWTI aims to install this water management solution in up to 40 schools in the refugee-hosting communities of Jordan. This will enable these schools to monitor their water consumption, take immediate action if a potential leak is detected and avoid the misuse and loss of water.
