AI for Impact at Scale: Case Studies from Innovators in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

Across low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, artificial intelligence (AI) is tackling systemic challenges in health, agriculture, climate, energy and economic development, unlocking new pathways to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This report presents 12 case studies showcasing AI in practice across these regions and sectors. It highlights how innovators are leveraging AI to address long-standing development challenges, from improving agricultural yields and maternal health outcomes to enabling climate-smart practices and digital inclusion.

Despite its transformative potential, there remains limited understanding of how AI is deployed in these contexts. This report aims to fill that gap by detailing the technologies, business models and strategies that make AI solutions scalable, sustainable, and impactful.
