In 2022, United Nations Secretary-General launched the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) Initiative, which aims to ensure that everyone in the world is protected by an early warning system (EWS). The GSMA has catalysed the role of the mobile industry in EWS for several years and immediately took a leadership role in the initiative through the GSMA Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation programme, which is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. The GSMA is part of the International Telecommunication Union led 3rd Pillar of the initiative, which focuses on “warning dissemination and communication”, and is represented on the High-Level Advisory Panel by our Director General. Our leadership role highlights the mobile industry’s crucial contribution to the initiative’s success.
This briefing note provides a snapshot of the GSMA’s strategy and activities including:
- profiling industry leadership
- hosting multi-stakeholder convenings
- building public-private partnerships
- providing technical assistance
- publishing demand-driven research
We welcome further collaboration with all stakeholders to realise the ambitions of the EW4All Initiative.
