For over two decades mobile money services have grown exponentially, driving financial inclusion for billions of people, and opening up incredible opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses across the world. Today, 1.75 billion registered accounts are processing $1.4 trillion a year.
Over the years, Sub-Saharan Africa has been a major driver of mobile money’s success, home to half of the world’s accounts. West Africa has emerged as a key player in the last decade, contributing over a third of new accounts active on a monthly basis in 2023. Asia continues to show robust growth, with over $1 billion transacted daily in the region.
