Tearfund is an international charitable organisation tackling poverty through sustainable development by responding to disasters and challenging injustice. The GSMA Innovation Fund supported Tearfund to deliver mobile-enabled weather forecasting information, financial services and insurance cover to agro-pastoralists. In partnership with Nyala Insurance and Oromia Insurance, they provided parametric insurance via the Jamii.one platform – a digital tool for savings communities. The project also leveraged Viamo’s SMS and IVR technologies to disseminate weather forecasting information and agricultural advisory to agro pastoralists to strengthen their resilience to climate hazards.
