MWC26 Smart Mobility Summit catchup

Record attendance reflects growing momentum for intelligent connected vehicles and the low altitude economy

Hosted by GSMA at MWC26 Shanghai on 25 June, the Smart Mobility Summit welcomed more than 405 delegates and 19 industry speakers, marking a record attendance since the summit was launched three years ago. The milestone reflects the growing momentum and increasing industry interest in intelligent connected vehicles and the low altitude economy across China and the APAC region.

The intelligent connected vehicle session convened UNIDO, telecom operators, automakers, and technology companies to explore new models for mutually beneficial global collaboration. Focusing on cross border connectivity, international expansion, and local market compliance, speakers highlighted the industry’s evolution from exporting vehicles to building integrated technology ecosystems and global partnerships.

The low altitude economy session brought together mobile operators, eVTOL manufacturers, and experts from the communications, aviation, and regulatory sectors. Centered on 5G Advanced, AI, and autonomous flight, participants agreed that large scale commercialisation will depend on coordinated progress in airworthiness certification, digital infrastructure, commercial use cases, and regulatory frameworks, with telecom operators playing a pivotal role in enabling the low altitude digital ecosystem.
