Letter from Jeanine Vos

This month, I encourage you to visit the online recap of the Connected Living Middle East Summit. Because the prevalence of certain chronic diseases is a particular concern in the Middle East, we can learn much from how these countries are already incorporating mobile technologies into their healthcare systems, with the aims of improving the health of their populations whilst reducing costs.

At the Summit, we were fortunate to hear about mHealth deployments from three perspectives: Dr. Salah El Badawi, Director, Diabetes Control Program, Ministry of Health, UAE talked about the UAE?s mHealth initiative; Santanu Biswas, eHealth Service Director, Du talked about Du?s health services offering; and Ayub Kalaff, Director of Business Development, Mobile Doctors outlined their services designed to be an ?efficient and scalable primary care gatekeeping model that aligns all patients, payers and providers?.

We met our presenters during our on-going work with the Middle East mHealth Innovation Group (mIG). As we continue to launch mIGs in key regions, we are using our early work with the Middle East mIG as a model for how mHealth strategies can be adopted worldwide.

All the best,
Jeanine Vos, Executive Director, mEducation and mHealth, Connected Living, GSMA
