Partnering with Mobile for Smart Utilities
GSMA Embedded Mobile Online Webinar
Wednesday June 1st 2011, 10.00 – 11.00am EST/3.00 – 4.00pm BST/4.00 – 5.00pm CET
The utility industry is experiencing a period of rapid change. The challenges facing the utility company today are many-fold, from changing regulatory requirements, aging infrastructure, and pressures to cut operating costs, to the need to incorporate distributed renewable sources of energy. Transition to the more flexible, automated, reliable, safe, and secure generation, transmission and distribution grids is crucial for addressing these challenges.
Mobile industry will be a key partner for the utilities in this transition process. In order to appreciate the emerging needs of utility operators and gauge the specific nature and extent of the opportunities for supplying the requisite operations and business support systems, mobile companies need to understand the nature of prevailing regulatory frameworks, the diversity of business drivers, technology trends, and specific requirements in relation to the sector?s organization and structure components.
The KEMA report Why Mobile for Utilities?, commissioned by the GSMA which represents the interests of nearly 800 mobile operators worldwide, provides insight into the utility sector?s operations and presents analysis of key opportunities for mobile network operators in delivering technical solutions and services to support the advent of Smart Grid.
The GSMA would like to invite you to join an online webinar that discusses the key findings of the report:
- To find out the main requirements of smart utility communications networks, and discuss how mobile networks can deliver on these requirements;
- Understand key smart grids technology trends and business drivers;
- Discover the opportunities for the mobile industry to support the deployments of smart grid, smart metering and smart home projects.
