Make every business communication more trustworthy

GSMA Open Verifiable Communications (OVC) is developing a secure global framework to help people identify legitimate business calls and messages

Hiya’s State of the Call 2026 report

The Challenge

Trust in mobile communications is being eroded

Scam calls, spoofing and AI impersonation are reducing trust in unfamiliar numbers. While ignoring unfamiliar numbers may help people avoid potential scams, it also means legitimate and important communications are being missed. Banks cannot warn customers about suspected fraud, patients miss healthcare appointments, utilities struggle to provide service updates, and businesses find it harder to reach their customers. This negatively impacts customer experience and increases cost to serve for businesses.

A range of branded communications solutions are emerging, but without a common global framework, the market risks becoming fragmented and inconsistent. A secure and interoperable approach is needed to help businesses verify their identities across networks and channels and give consumers greater confidence in the calls and messages they receive.

Introducing OVC

A global framework for verifiable communications

A range of branded communications solutions are emerging, but without a common global framework, the market risks becoming fragmented and inconsistent. A secure and interoperable approach is needed to help businesses verify their identities across networks and channels and give consumers greater confidence in the calls and messages they receive.

The program is developing:

How will it work

A simple three-step explanation would make the proposition accessible:

A business is vetted

Its organisational identity, brand rights and number rights are checked

Verified information is transmitted securely

Identity credentials travels across participating communications providers and networks

The recipient sees who’s contacting them

The business’s verified name, logo and number can be presented on the recipient’s device

Why OVC matters

For consumers

  • Greater confidence with incoming business communications
  • A clearer way to distinguish legitimate organisations from impersonators
  • Fewer missed calls and messages from businesses and organisation they want to hear from

For businesses

  • More calls and messages answered increasing efficiency and lowering cost to serve
  • More consistent access to verified communications across networks and markets
  • Improved customer experience and management
