Network 2020 Showcasing RCS Services at CTIA Super Mobility

GSMA Network 2020 Programme Showcasing RCS Services at CTIA Super Mobility in Las Vegas

This week the Network 2020 programme is in Las Vegas to attend the CTIA Super Mobility Show and demonstrate some of our work on Rich Communications Services (RCS). In particular, we will showcase a number of interactive demonstrations including the results of a mobile industry initiative to create a common and globally interoperable universal profile for RCS that will enable all operators worldwide to provide a consistent messaging service across mobile devices. The profile is currently supported by 56 operators, OEMs and OS providers worldwide including Sprint and T-Mobile in the U.S.

Google are also supportive of the universal profile and will be present at the stand during the week. The company will soon launch its Jibe Platform supporting the profile that provides a cloud and hub solution to help carriers scale their initiatives. Google is also partnering with carriers and OEMs to offer a messaging client for Android that supports SMS, MMS and RCS.

Rich Communications Services (RCS) are one of the foundational next-generation communications services that global operators are providing to their customers, along with Video over LTE (ViLTE), Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) and Voice over LTE (VoLTE). All of these are underpinned by all-IP networks that can be further enhanced by network interconnection, giving consumers global access to operator-led ‘advanced communications’ services such as pre-calling, instant messaging, live video and real-time photo or file sharing, which work natively on any device and network without the need to download an app. RCS is currently offered by 48 operators in 35 countries with a subscriber base of 22.6 million and is available natively on 156 devices and via 19 hosted solution services.
