Amazon is acquiring Globalstar to expand its low Earth orbit “Amazon Leo” network with direct-to-device (D2D) satellite services, enabling mobile connectivity in areas without traditional coverage. The deal also includes a partnership with Apple, allowing Amazon Leo to power satellite features like Emergency SOS on iPhone and Apple Watch while continuing and enhancing Globalstar’s existing services. Overall, the agreement aims to improve global connectivity, support emergency communications and remote access, and is expected to close in 2027 pending regulatory approval and operational milestone.
