AST SpaceMobile, in partnership with Fairwinds Technologies, successfully demonstrated Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) satellite communications for key defense use cases, enabling real-time Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) connectivity, multimedia streaming, and secure video calls on standard smartphones.
Conducted near AST’s Oahu, Hawaii gateway with participation from US Indo-Pacific Command, including the Navy, Marine Corps, and Space Command, the test showcased direct-to-device (D2D) capabilities for tactical operations.
Supported by the US Defense Innovation Unit’s Cyber and Telecom portfolio, the collaboration aims to enhance resilient communications in denied or austere environments.
