UAE-based Space42 and Viasat have formed Equatys, a jointly-owned venture aimed at delivering global direct-to-device (D2D) services.
Equatys introduces the industry’s first “space towerco” model, combining shared space and ground NTN infrastructure to lower costs and improve spectrum use. The platform will support more than 100MHz of harmonised MSS spectrum across 160+ markets, with commercial rollout targeted within three years.
The venture will operate on a wholesale model, offering services to operators, governments, and local industries, while enabling evolution to a 5G NTN environment.
