2nd Regional Telecommunications Congress and Regulatory Working Group Meeting

The Second Regional Telecommunications Congress (RTC 2014) , will be held from 18-22 August in Panama City. It is the meeting point for key figures from the telecommunications industry to share experiences, best practices in public policy, discuss regulatory challenges, reach consensus necessary to increase investment, network deployment, coverage and quality of service and connectivity for the benefit of Latin American people.

The meeting is organized by the Latin American Association of Research Centers and Telecommunication companies (AHCIET), the mobile operators association GSMA Latin America, the National Authority of Public Services of Panama (ASEP) and CAF, the Development Bank of Latin America. This year, the guest country is Mexico, whose meeting will discuss the country’s regulation of the constitutional reform in telecommunications in June 2013.

Other organizations such as LACNIC (the Latin American and Caribbean IP Address Regional Registry), ISOC (the Internet Society), ITU (the International Telecommunications Union), Regulatel (the Latin American Forum of Telecommunications Regulators) and SEGIB (the Ibero-American Secretariat) will participate in the congress.

Regulatory Working Group Meeting

 

During the congress, the Regulatory Working Group of GSMA Latin America will meet on August Tuesday 19. The REGU gather the senior executives of regulatory and public policy areas of mobile operators in Latin America.

This group is focused on the debate and analysis on regulatory issues and events that are of relevance in Latin America and is an important source of learning and information sharing for mobile operators resulting in best practices and better services to society..

Sustainability in the Mobile Industry: Child Online Protection and eWaste

 

The seminar “Sustainability in the Mobile Industry” will encompass two major issues that the Task Force Sustainability and Social Responsibility of GSMA Latin America is working on: Child Online Protection and electronic waste.

To begin, the partnership agreement between UNICEF and the GSMA to protect children online in Latin America will be presented, providing some examples of companies working on the area. Next, the discussion will move around electronic waste and how mobile operators in Latin America are making voluntary initiatives to improve the environmental management of eWaste .
