European Parliament adopts General Data Protection Regulation proposal

On 12 March 2014, the European Parliament plenary adopted the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) proposal with 621 votes in favour, 10 against and 22 abstentions.

The next step in the legislative process is the beginning of informal trialogue meetings among the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission under the Greek and Italian presidencies following the European Parliament elections in May.

 

The GSMA called on the co-legislators to agree on the data protection rules and deliver consistent protection for Europe’s citizens, promote innovation and ensure a level regulatory playing field.
