On 26 January, GSMA Europe hosted the Mobile Meetings Series breakfast debate on Mobile Fun: Enhancing the user experience for mobile gaming. Participants, including officials from the European Commission (DG JUST and DG GROW) and representatives of operators, Internet players, app developers and start-ups discussed the opportunities and challenges for the growing business of gaming in Europe.
Overall, participants agreed that there is great potential for Europe in the mobile gaming sector. Striking a balance between protecting consumers and allowing the industry to innovate and grow continues to be an issue at EU level. However, the Commission has been working with national authorities to address some of the biggest challenges. Stakeholders are also looking at the behaviours of consumers online (including children) before determining the best regulatory approach to meet the demands of users and allow for advancements in technology.
