Introducing Mobile Connect – the convenient and secure login solution with privacy protection

In many industries, from entertainment to banking, from health to e-government, services and processes are becoming both more digital and more mobile. As a result, there is rising demand from consumers for secure access to services, greater privacy and robust data protection. Using a mobile handset to enable digital authentication can be more straightforward and secure than other methods and, therefore, has the potential to open up new markets.

The GSMA is working with leading mobile operators to develop an innovative new service that will allow consumers to securely access a wide array of digital services using their mobile phone number for authentication. The GSMA Mobile Connect service will simplify consumers’ lives, offering a single, trusted, mobile phone number-based authentication solution that fully respects their online privacy.

For consumers, Mobile Connect offers privacy protection, reduces the risk of identity theft and simplifies the login experience for a range of services in many sectors, such as retail, government and banking. Mobile Connect will provide a streamlined experience for users; they will no longer need to create and manage additional user names and passwords: authentication will employ the subscriber’s mobile phone number and information contained in the secure SIM card. The standards-based GSMA Mobile Connect service will utilise the OpenID Connect protocol, offering broad interoperability across mobile operators and service providers, further ensuring a seamless experience for consumers.
