Insights from the “Resilient Connectivity for Island Nations” Roundtable at MWC Barcelona 2024

GSMA North America was pleased to cohost a roundtable with the Caribbean and APAC regions to discuss their perspective on ways to build resilience into connectivity for island nations during MWC Barcelona this past February. The discourse surrounding issues and points of growth at the “Resilient Connectivity for Island Nations” Roundtable delved deep into the experience of connectivity for both the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region as well as the Caribbean. During this time, speakers from industry, government and GSMA provided their diverse perspectives on the topic.

Island nations require attention due to unique issues such as high costs of goods and maintenance, along with environmental challenges like humidity, salt in the air, volcanic rock, and high water tables, underscore the need for robust network resilience. In the face of these challenges, concerted efforts from the sector are imperative to bridge the connectivity gap. By fostering collaboration, driving strategic investments, and leveraging emerging technologies, island nations can navigate these obstacles and pave the way for a more connected and resilient future.
