Turkcell – Renewable energy for self-consumption

Renewable energy plays a central role in Turkcell’s sustainability strategy and long-term operational resilience. Turkcell’s goal is net-zero by 2050. As global energy demand rises and environmental concerns intensify, Turkcell is committed to reducing the organisation’s carbon footprint and achieving energy independence through clean, sustainable sources. Turkcell uses 100% renewable energy with certificate. The company not only uses renewable energy, but also produce it via its subsidiary, Turkcell Energy.

Turkcell has significant investments in solar energy. By 2027, the company plans to commission a total of 300 MW of ground-mounted solar power plants. In addition, under Turkcell’s Greensite (self-consumption) project, Turkcell has already integrated solar energy systems into 2,410 base stations, and further investments in other stations are ongoing. These initiatives mark a major milestone in Turkcell’s journey toward energy self-sufficiency.

Turkcell also currently operates an 18 MW wind power plant, which already provides a significant portion of the organisation’s energy needs. In 2023, 62,3 MWh of renewable energy was produced, achieving a renewable energy usage rate of 6,6%. As a result of these combined efforts, Turkcell achieved 78 GWh of renewable energy production in 2024, reaching a renewable energy usage rate of 7.6%.

As Turkcell’s solar capacity continues to expand, this rate is expected to increase significantly, delivering both environmental and economic benefits.

Turkcell collaborated with a variety of stakeholders, including local authorities, renewable energy technology providers, and financial institutions. Their support has been instrumental in driving Turkcell’s progress and laying the foundation for a fully self-powered future.

This initiative demonstrates Turkcell’s strong commitment to clean energy and provides a leading example of responsible and forward-thinking business practices during the global energy transition.
