Renewable Energy for Mobile Towers

Renewable energy solutions are increasingly recognised as a critical pathway to reducing the environmental impact of mobile networks, while improving the resilience and sustainability of connectivity in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

However, many mobile towers in remote off-grid and bad-grid areas still rely on diesel generators for power, and although mobile network operators (MNOs), tower companies (TowerCos) and other stakeholders have spent the last decade exploring renewable alternatives, 88% of these sites continue to be powered by non-renewable energy sources.
