Join GPM at our next Working Group in Indonesia

Green Power for Mobile’s Asia Regional Working Group is taking place on the 25th and 26th of September in Jakarta, Indonesia. This will be the fourth Asia Regional Working Group to cover challenges and possibilities of green deployments for telecom network operators in Asia.

Last year, the working group was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and covered many of the recent technological developments and success cases of green deployments in Asia. This year, the event will identify the critical success factors of green power deployment for telecom networks and its business viability.

Despite having the largest number of unique mobile subscribers, a lack of reliable energy access in Asia creates challenges for mobile network operators (MNOs) to keep networks up and continue to provide services to subscribers.

We have noticed a growing interest in green power from the MNO community across Asia. Some of the interest is due to a gradual awareness of environment conservation and OPEX reduction, some is due to regulatory requirements, and some interest is due to a strategic decision for reaching last-mile communities. However many of these green power initiatives have not been successful or have been unable to scale-up to the next level. The objective of this year’s working group in Jakarta is to identify and address why these initiatives are not scaling to the next level.

The agenda is divided into four sections: Discussing the success and challenge cases from MNOs; Highlighting current green power technology development and the impacts of going green; Identifying possible business innovation to reduce investment risks : and exploring last mile challenges and how to mitigate those.

Who should attend this event?

  • Operators  and tower companies operating in Asia that are experiencing  energy access challenges
  • Equipment manufacturers and system integrators with a good track record of providing energy solutions with new developments to showcase
  • Energy service companies offering an OPEX-based energy service model
  • Development partners and investors with a strong interest in green telecom

Since this working group is an invite-only event, please email us at greenpower@gsma.com if you would like to attend.  We look forward to seeing you there, and will share the outcome of the event in the next few weeks.
