Ashley Olson Onyango, Head of Financial Inclusion and AgriTech at GSMA, highlighted that global food demand is expected to increase by 50% over the next two decades. She emphasised that smallholder farmers, supported by digital innovation, will be crucial in meeting rising food demand, even as they face persistent challenges such as climate change.
A panel moderated by Kevin Genga (GSMA), featuring Justin Umutoni (CGIAR Hub), Riches Atai (Winich Farms), Seema Gohil (DigiFarm), and Matt Strickland (GSMA), explored how their organizations are leveraging digital agriculture solutions to drive impact across African markets.
The discussion highlighted the potential of digital technologies to support climate adaptation among smallholder farmers by improving productivity, profitability, and resilience.
Through tools such as real-time agronomic advice, weather forecasting, market linkages, and digital financial services, these solutions help farmers make data-driven decisions that increase yields by up to 170% and boost incomes by 20–60%, primarily through better resource use, cost efficiencies, and enhanced market access.
