Climate Impact: Asia

The GSMA Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation, launched in 2022, was designed to help accelerate the testing, adoption and scalability of digital innovations that enable the world’s most vulnerable populations to adapt, anticipate and absorb the negative impacts of climate change. Read case studies from the GSMA climate tech startups in Asia – with deep insights and learnings from project implementation to outcomes. See below, case studies from 3 startups located in 3 countries in Asia:

1. BaKhabar Kissan (BKK) in Pakistan

BKK is strengthening agricultural productivity and planning for climate-vulnerable farming communities in Pakistan through a network of new weather stations to provide hyperlocal weather information, as well as enabling access to agricultural expertise through digital platforms.

A person wearing light-colored clothing holds a red-bordered smartphone in both hands, browsing a document or web page with text and some charts or tables. The background is blurred, and part of a video player icon is visible on the screen.

Agri-smart farming data

BKK’s digital weather platform provides real-time, hyperlocal weather information and reduces agri risk for farmers.

A man with short, combed-back salt-and-pepper hair and a trimmed beard wears a checked blazer, white shirt, and colorful lanyard. He stands indoors in front of blurred expo signage and a red display, looking slightly past the camera.

2. GeoKrishi in Nepal

GeoKrishi helps smallholder farmers in Nepal adapt to climate stressors and adopt climate-smart agricultural practices through digital learning content and advisory services.

The GeoKrishi story

Nepalese farmers talk about how the Geokrishi solutoin helps to protect crops, manage plant diseases, and identify weather patters to increase productivity.

A person holds a smartphone showing an image of diseased green leaves with dark spots. The screen displays text in Nepali about plant health. The person’s thumb and finger are pointing to similar damage on real leaves held below the phone.

Digitising Nepal’s agriculture

GeoKrishi curates climate-smart agri content and helps streamline decision making for farmers and government officials to improve agri productivity.

A man with short dark hair and large glasses smiles slightly. He is wearing a blue blazer, an open-collared light blue shirt, and a red lanyard. The background is softly blurred, showing stairs and a tan brick wall.

3. Komunidad in Philippines

Komunidad is upgrading communities’ capacity to respond to disasters in the Philippines with a typhoon early warning system and weather analytics platform designed to help the local government plan and prepare for hazards more efficiently and accurately..

A man with short hair and a trimmed beard, wearing a blue zip-up sweater, sits at a desk with his hands clasped. He appears to be speaking or listening, and the background is neutral and out of focus.

The Komunidad story

Hear from the Municipal Mayor of Siargao Island on the importance of platforms such as Komunidad, in saving lives.

A person points at a weather forecast chart displayed on a laptop screen. The chart shows data columns labeled with times, including cloud cover, dewpoint, humidity, and rain probability, with values in red and green cells. The laptop is an Acer.

Climate-smart data analytics

Komunidad provides 9 municipalities with AI-powered weather analytics and a EWS dashboard with a mobile app and SMS alert solution.

A man with short dark hair wearing a light blue button-down shirt sits indoors against a blurred background with warm lighting and a brick wall. He is facing forward, hands clasped, and appears to be speaking or engaged in conversation.
