Driving Collaboration in Non-Terrestrial and Terrestrial Networks
At World Space Business Week 2025 in Paris, the GSMA Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) Community showcased its presence with a dedicated stand, raising awareness of the community and emphasising the importance of collaboration between mobile network operators, satellite operators, and technology vendors.
Highlights included a fireside chat with Alex Sinclair GSMA CTO and Isabelle Mauro GSOA Director General , sharing on the transformative potential and evolving landscape of NTNs. They discussed how terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks working together can extend mobile internet into remote and underserved areas, while ensuring resilience in cities during disasters. While 5% of the global population still lack mobile internet access, 38% around 300 million people live in areas with coverage but are not using it, NTNs integrated with terrestrial networks are critical to closing the coverage gap and enabling global connectivity. The event also marked the renewal of the MOU between the GSMA Foundry and ESA, strengthening ties for joint initiatives in non-terrestrial and terrestrial networks innovation.
Attendees engaged with the community to discuss connectivity opportunities, the integration of satellite and terrestrial networks, and enabling IoT, smart mobility, and other industry-specific solutions. The event provided a platform to exchange insights, showcase GSMA resources as the whitepaper on NTN challenges and opportunities, and advance collaboration across the global TN-NTN ecosystem.
