About the 5G-Advanced session
The session described how 5G-Advanced had strengthened the capabilities of 5G Standalone networks by addressing one of the most persistent constraints in next-generation connectivity: uplink performance. It explained that technologies such as uplink carrier aggregation, supplementary uplink for extended coverage, and uplink-aware scheduling had significantly reduced uplink bottlenecks. As a result, industries had been able to scale advanced use cases that relied on high-quality, real-time upstream data transmission, including multi-camera live streaming, industrial machine vision, extended-reality remote assistance and drone-based inspections.
The discussion outlined how 5G-Advanced had elevated the overall value of Standalone networks by refining operational efficiency and opening new opportunities for both enterprise and consumer markets. The combination of network slicing, edge computing and further uplink optimisation had enabled operators to provide more deterministic, application-specific performance. When paired with the accelerating adoption of private 5G networks, these features had delivered secure, tailored connectivity environments for organisations seeking to modernise processes, automate production lines and advance their Industry 4.0 agendas.
However, the session also highlighted that a key challenge had persisted: translating these technical capabilities into sustainable commercial models. While the technology had matured rapidly, turning performance advantages into predictable revenue streams required new business frameworks, revised customer engagement models and closer collaboration across ecosystem partners.
