Improving water service delivery through mobile data collection

In 2015, 663 million people worldwide still lacked access to improved drinking water, in the form of piped or non-piped improved sources. Mobile-enabled data collection can improve the delivery of water services. The Mobile for Development Utilities Innovation Fund has supported three projects tackling this issue by developing effective ways to collect and share information on the functionality and use of water services. Based on the results of these pilots, this report highlights the ways in which mobile technology can be used as an efficient and adaptive tool to collect information and drive water service improvement.
