GSMA appoints new Director in Brazil

Amadeu Castro Neto, Brazilian mobile industry expert, to represent the GSMA in Brazil.

The GSMA is opening a new office in Brasilia, Brazil to meet the growing demands of mobile services in the country. Led by Amadeu Castro, the office will concentrate on key GSMA activities for Brazil.

Over the last decade, Amadeu has worked as a consultant in the telecommunication industry, developing political and regulatory strategies. In the same period, he was the CEO of the National Association of Mobile Operators (ACEL) and the Senate representative on the Advisory Council of Anatel. Previously, he held a position with Anatel as Executive Superintendent, and Radiofrequency and Control Superintendent. Prior to this, he was part of the Ministry of Communications of Brazil as Director of the Planning and Engineering Department. He also headed the Brazilian delegation at the World Radiocommunication Conference of the ITU in 1995 and 1997.

“Opening an office in Brazil is a pivotal step to continue the efforts of the GSMA in supporting mobile operators in Latin America,” said Sebastian Cabello, GSMA Latin America Director. “With Amadeu’s vast experience in the telecommunication industry, he is the right person to represent mobile operator interests in the country.”

Key areas for mobile operators in Brazil include: the National Broadband Plan, national NFC technology boost, frequency bands for mobile services, barriers for infrastructure development and, mobile initiatives in health, education, automotive and smart cities.

Amadeu added: “To appropriately address key mobile challenges in Brazil, it is important to have a local presence — to be closer to our members and to continue working with all mobile industry players.”
