The Mobile Economy Africa 2025
Uncover key trends in Africa’s mobile industry
In 2024, mobile technologies and services generated 7.7% of Africa’s GDP, amounting to $220 billion in economic value. The mobile industry’s economic contribution will reach $270 billion by 2030, driven by the expansion of digital technologies on the continent, including 4G, 5G and AI.
While 416 million people are now using mobile internet in Africa, almost 75% of the population remain unconnected. 960 million people in Africa, 64% of the population, are not using mobile internet despite living in an area where coverage is available. Closing this usage gap will require collaboration from industry, international organisations and governments, to address key barriers such as device affordability and digital skills.
African governments have begun developing national AI strategies to capitalise on the technology’s potential as a tool for national development. The mobile industry is at the forefront of the continent’s AI journey, investing in infrastructure to lay the technical foundations and developing AI solutions for their customers.
