Africa Climate Summit (ACS) and Africa Climate Week (ACW), hosted by the Government of Kenya, are the first of four regional climate weeks providing a platform for global stakeholders to discuss climate solutions and build momentum in the lead up to COP 28. The GSMA ClimateTech team will participate in the event from 4 – 8 September 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Exploring innovative climate solutions in Africa
As the world grapples with the urgent issue of climate change, Africa stands at the forefront of the greatest challenges and opportunities. Increasingly, we see the use of innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and blockchain helping the most vulnerable communities in the region to anticipate and adapt to climate shocks and stresses.
Through the GSMA Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation, we support exciting tech solutions designed to deliver impact and build climate resilience and adaptation across Africa. Such innovations require support from a range of stakeholders across public and private sectors in the form of financing, enabling regulatory environments and technical assistance to realise their full potential.
The Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week 2023 – vital platforms for driving climate action across the continent – are just around the corner. The events will gather policymakers, practitioners and civil society in Nairobi for five days in early September to build momentum for COP 28.
The GSMA ClimateTech programme is delighted to support ACS and ACW by co-organising and participating in several sessions. With technology and innovation as key cross-cutting themes for this year’s COP, we are excited to keep the potential that tech solutions can bring at the top of the agenda, ensuring they remain a cornerstone of the decisions driving global climate action.
