Key Recommendations
Disseminating training content
- For first time mobile internet users, in-person training is likely to have a better impact as it can more successfully reach the most underserved.
- Ensure trainers are well equipped to provide training and have all the materials and resources required to provision the training successfully.
- When training low literacy and digital skilled groups, ensure that trainers allow trainees to get hands-on and encourage trainees to trial their skills.
- Consider providing group trainings to foster peer-to-peer learning and build confidence among trainees.
- Disseminating content across digital channels can reach a high number of people at a lower cost, however, it will only reach those with existing access to mobile and therefore may not reach the most underserved.
- Make videos that are low file sizes, easy to transfer without data and to watch offline.
- When disseminating video content through SMS messages, messages should prompt recipients to share the videos with family members.
- When targeting trainees with very low literacy, consider using Interactive Voice Response (IVR) instead of SMS messages as it may be more accessible and appealing.
- When disseminating content on digital channels, carefully consider the duration and placement of video content.
- When feasible, place video training content on zero-rated URLs or provide data vouchers so those without mobile data can watch without incurring additional costs.
