The 5G IoT Summit will return to MWC23 Las Vegas this September with a focus on the Energy and Environment. Energy and the Environment are the biggest topics affecting everyone on the planet right now. As an industry have ready-made solutions that will automate on how we deal with connected energy and environmental devices like Smart Meters, Pollution Monitors, Agri solutions, water management, logistics, transport and cities. We need to maximise the use of connectivity, data and infrastructure. 5G IoT (Massive, LTE-M, NB-IoT) is the best placed connectivity today for Energy/Environment solutions and supported by other technical solutions in cloud infrastructure, Big Data and AI.

5G is the fifth-generation cellular technology that revolutionises and enables new capabilities such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud computing, Edge computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Adoption of 5G and the IoT is being driven by several factors, including increased demand from consumers and enterprises and the availability of more affordable devices. Further 5G enhancements, such as network slicing. Private & dedicated networks and 5G core, will ultimately help realise the vision of a global IoT network, supporting a massive number of connected devices. The 5G networks being deployed today are building on 4G networks, which employ both LTE-M and NB-IOT technologies, which will evolve into Massive IoT within 5G delivering the functionality required to support narrowband (Cellular LPWAN) Use cases.

In this 5G IoT Summit you will hear from the IoT ecosystem players that have implemented new cellular technologies in the 5G era with innovative business models to be hugely successful. We will hear how IoT data is being used to save money, time and resources in the Energy and Environment Industries. How post Covid-19 present opportunities that the industry can provide automated IoT Solutions that will ensure business continuity should another pandemic occur. And finally, we hear from the customer who has deployed these solutions in their everyday business operations.

Topic Speaker
09:00 – 09:05 Welcome and Introduction Shane Rooney, Senior Technical Director, GSMA
09:05 – 09:35 Sponsored Keynote Presentation: IoT for good.

Fireside Chat: Kigen

70% manufacturers cannot get past the pilot stage of IoT. It’s time we pull into the pitstop and see what is needed to streamline IoT deployments for OEMs and Device makers – in terms of cost, power and manufacturing operations so that they are suitable for single-charge battery powered devices; Smart metering especially water meters, logistics trackers and connected labels. Through learnings from AT&T and Kigen approach to focus on the critical stages in factory and in field that determine IoT success.

• Cover flexibility and tuned solutions around eSIM
• In-factory provisioning
• SIM Transfer and zero-touch provisioning which used IoT Control Center

10:05 – 10:25 State of the IoT Nation

The Internet of Things is in a period of transition. Many of the established technological and commercial norms of 5 years ago no longer apply, with significant implications for the way IoT is delivered. In this presentation, Matt Hatton will examine the key trends occurring in IoT, with a particular focus on all things cellular and 5G. These include the implications of the generational shift which sees 2G/3G replaced by NB-IoT/LTE-M and 5G, changing mechanisms for delivering multi-country connectivity, the impact of eSIM and remote SIM provisioning – particularly the new SGP.32 standard – the potential for non-terrestrial networks and how they fit into a connectivity portfolio, the rapidly evolving landscape for Connectivity Management Platforms (CMPs), and the need to be ‘Connected-by-Design’, cross-optimising device, cloud, edge and connectivity.

10:45 – 11:10 Sponsor Demo: How eSIM for IoT Applications is shaping the future of the IoT ecosystem

An important landmark for the IoT ecosystem was conquered this year when GSMA published the first eSIM IoT Technical Specification (SGP.32). This specification empowers companies to exercise greater flexibility in choosing their connectivity solutions while retaining the ability to adapt and manage these choices directly through subscription management platforms. This not only enhances operational efficiency but also ensures that IoT players from sectors such as energy, environment and utilities have the autonomy to tailor their connectivity to their unique needs.

Join our experts, Sam Brown, Valid’s Business Development Manager for OEMs, and Jan Lattunen, Simplex Wireless’ CCO, as they provide insights into the key components of our eSIM for IoT solution and talk about what this means in the real-world.

Given the inherent fragmentation in the IoT industry, it’s crucial for IoT connectivity providers to cater to the diverse needs of various companies. The dynamic nature of this industry demands that IoT companies have the tools and control to navigate industry changes, mergers, and flow of various players. This demonstration will underscore how the newfound control facilitated by the GSMA IoT specification equips companies to not just survive but thrive amidst the ever-evolving IoT landscape with the help of Valid, as EUM, acting as central point to ensure interoperability among the different actors.
