GSMA engages with African states to address the digital switchover and licensing the digital dividend for mobile broadband

The GSMA led an industry session with Qualcomm and Ericsson on using the UHF band for mobile broadband in Africa at the African Telecommunications Union (ATU)’s third Digital Migration Summit on 27-29th May. ATU recommendations reaffirmed African countries’ commitment to complete digital migration by the June 2015 deadline, but recognised that funding of the switchover remains a key challenge for administrations. The GSMA is also following-up with sub-regional organisations, including the SADC Digital Broadcasting Migration Forum in June and will be participating at the ECOWAS digital migration summit on 28-29 July.
