Mobile and the Power of Spectrum

Telecoms infrastructure serves as the foundation of all modern digital economies, with more people than ever before connecting to the internet using mobile.

Internet access is crucial in helping governments deliver economic growth and increased employment in all communities, supporting social objectives such as healthcare and education, and helping to meet environmental goals.

By the end of 2022, over 5.4 billion people globally subscribed to a mobile service, including 4.6 billion people who also used the mobile internet. Mobile technologies and services also generated 5% of global GDP, contributed $5.2 trillion of economic value added, and supported 28 million jobs across the wider mobile ecosystem.

Access to spectrum has been key to realising this impact. Importantly, the speed, reach and quality of mobile services will depend on governments and regulators supporting timely access to the right amount and type of spectrum, and under the right conditions.
