Standard Essential Patent Tool

This is a feasibility study into artificial intelligence and natural language processing techniques. The objective of the study is to identify appropriate tools that could assist in identifying which technologies protected by patents are essential to telecommunication standards, i.e. is the technology protected in a particular patent essential to implement the technology required to apply to a telecommunication standard.

Overview

The study is intended to demonstrate the capabilities and limitations of an AI and NLP tool, and explore new evaluations as part of the above objective. For example, the GSMA is leading the research and development to identify standard essential patents (SEPs) through the application of machine learning, natural language processing (NLP) and neural networks.
