The GSMA has released the Operator Platform Requirements and Architecture, wherein significance of the Operator Platform (OP) in the industry is elaborated. The released Permanent Reference Document (PRD) covers in detail requirements, architectural considerations, interfaces, targets, and functionality of an OP. That PRD has both a short-term and a long-term perspective with the latter depending on updates done in other bodies (e.g., Standard Definition Organisations) to enable support for those requirements. Especially when it comes to the support of Edge Cloud that makes it complex to support those requirements to their full extent in the short term.

This Whitepaper identifies the requirements for creating the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) of an OP supporting Edge Cloud that can be deployed in the short term. For the initial deployment of the OP, it is expected that the platform should support a set of features that are advisory for the platform to offer distinctive and valuable services while providing a reasonable blueprint to be implemented.
